Milwaukee Real Weddings: Marie + Sean

To have and to hold

After meeting at a Chicago art gallery in 2011, Marie and Sean hit it off and went on a date — only to discover that they’d actually met four years prior, when they’d tailgated together before a Dave Matthews Band concert. This time, the impression was one neither could forget, and they’ve been enjoying music, food, and drinks together ever since. For their wedding, making sure their guests’ introduction to Milwaukee was one that couldn’t be forgotten was a top priority. “After moving from Chicago two years ago, we felt that we wanted to bring our family and friends here to show them the place we call home,” they say. “We knew we wanted to have all the events in one place, so we wanted a hotel whose style and décor matched ours while making it easiest on our guests.” The Kimpton Journeyman Hotel was the perfect fit, making for a memorable weekend no one will soon forget.

For the ceremony in the Atelier room, Marie and Sean wrote what they loved most about one another and kept it a surprise. “It was really special to hear that from one another, but also to share it with our family and friends,” they say.

Directly after the ceremony, they held a cocktail hour in the beautiful Founders room on the rooftop for drinks and hors d’oeuvres.

Florals from Belle Fiori were kept minimal, with single football mums and greenery for the bridesmaids, three mums for the bride, baby roses for mothers’ corsages, and eucalyptus and greenery for men’s boutonnieres.

At the reception, there were king’s tables for all guests, decorated with Italian ruscus garland down the center and gold mercury votives. There were Polaroid cameras at each table and frames for guests to take home.

“The vibe was just perfect. Our guests (and us as well) didn’t want to check out by the end of the weekend.”

During the tasting beforehand with Chef Heather Terhune, they got the idea of doing a Chicago-themed late-night snack. The team made it happen with mini Chicago dogs and Italian beef sandwiches.
