Milwaukee Real Weddings: Maddie + Sam

Love that is built to last a lifetime

When an archivist/librarian and a preservationist get together, they know how to recognize something that stands out. “My dad had stayed at Kimpton Hotels in other cities and mentioned there was one in the Third Ward,” Maddie says. “After seeing the space, we fell in love with it. There was a great view.” The college sweethearts who met while at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities knew it’d make just the right backdrop for their intimate reception.

After a low-key wedding at Maddie’s parents’ house overlooking Lake Michigan — with just the couple’s immediate family and close friends — everyone took the trolley to the Kimpton Hotel Journeyman to get the reception party started.

For decorations, the bride and groom made chipboard houses and placed plants and tea lights in them. Pastry chef Anna Posey, owner of buzzed-about tasting menu spot Elske in Chicago (also conveniently Maddie’s sister), provided the dessert table.

“When we arrived on our wedding day, everything was taken care of, and all the employees were so friendly and helpful.” —Maddie and Sam

Although Maddie and Sam didn’t have a chance to try the food beforehand, to their delight, it ended up being delicious. “We also had an excellent bartender,” they rave.

To top off a great day of celebrating, the newlyweds stayed in the Presidential Suite. “We still talk about how amazing the suite was,” they say.
